How Qatar Gratuity is Calculated
Qatar's end of service gratuity is governed by Article 54 of the Qatar Labour Law (Law No. 14 of 2004). Qatar uses a unique formula based on weekly wages rather than daily rates.
The Formula
- Weekly wage = Monthly salary × 12 ÷ 52
- Gratuity per year = 3 weeks' wage
- Total = 3 weeks' wage × total years (including fractions)
The 2020 Reform: Equal Rights for All Employees
Qatar's 2020 labour law amendments removed the distinction between resigned and terminated employees for gratuity purposes. Since 2020, all employees receive full gratuity regardless of whether they resigned or were terminated. This was a significant worker-friendly reform that aligns Qatar more closely with international standards.

Qatar employers must pay all end of service dues, including gratuity, within 7 days of the employment contract ending. This is stricter than the UAE's 14-day window.
