UAE Notice Period and Final Settlement Rules
When employment ends in the UAE, your final settlement typically includes several components beyond just gratuity. This calculator covers those components.
Notice Period Pay
UAE law requires a minimum notice period of 30 days for unlimited contracts. If your employer terminates you without giving full notice, they must pay you the salary for the missing notice days. If your contract specifies a longer notice period, that applies instead.
Unused Annual Leave Encashment
Any unused annual leave days accumulated at the time of termination must be paid out. The UAE Labour Law (Article 29) entitles employees to 30 calendar days of leave per year (2.5 days per month). Unused leave is paid at your daily rate.
Arbitrary Dismissal (Article 47)
If you are terminated without a valid reason — or for reasons deemed arbitrary by a labour court — you may be entitled to additional compensation of up to 3 months' salary. This is on top of notice pay and gratuity. The court determines the exact amount.
Frequently Asked Questions
File a complaint via the MOHRE website (mohre.gov.ae), the MOHRE app, or by calling 800-60. MOHRE will mediate. If unresolved within 14 days, the case goes to the labour court. The process is free and typically employee-friendly for clear-cut cases.
